Eva Novakova, Irena Czepcova and Dagmar Petrovicka are the members of the group penocze. We first came together in the glass studio at the
Faculty of Art and Design of the University of Jan Evangelista in Usti nad
Labem. Our common interaction is based not only on our starting
point but also on the approach to working with the material and its structure. Our work is often composed using an artificial light source, which always
gives rise to the task of finding relationships between objects, space,
installation and viewer impact. The aim is to integrated conceptual tendencies in the
process of creation with traditional materials, creating site-specific
installations and objects with the common name penocze.

White 2013
- Public areas and their visualizations, visually overcrowded spaces.
- Collection of information, long-term process of white surface in an urban environment use the observational principle in sense of gathering information from their surroundings and becomes a reflection of the exact area.
- The invasion of public space and monitoring the reactions of viewer as an active creator.
In Prague Karlin I hung three white canvases
of size 120 x 100 cm and three white canvases 60 x 40 cm. Places I purposely
chose in my neighborhood, so I can monitor daily development. Localities for
white canvases were selected thorough monitoring of public areas in Karlin.
Suitable
facilities for hanging frames were old abandoned buildings or walls, where the
human hand have already signed on to the public space. Impairment of places was
caused by various ways such as in the sense of presenting himself (tags) expressing
in easily visible places (graffiti) or efforts of illegal commercial
communications by posting flyers, bonding and anchoring ads on highly visible
locations. One becomes an active agent in the creation of visually in public
space.
White
canvas has become competitive object with all this kind of visual display and
its neutral nature seeks for its own position in a visually flooded areas. It defines
the “images", which is located next to it or define them. White canvases
as artifact ask through its symbolic metaphor for creation, artistic act and
encourage imaginations and challenge a certain response. This is a form of
communication with public space. It opens up the possibility of communication
between the artifacts X viewer, which are not for this environment quite
common. Canvases may disappear or change its visual nature. Canvases encourages
participation, anyone can participate in process of transformation this
pre-prepared area. Some impacts take place without the active involvement of
the "viewer". Observational principle is capture on the screen information
from the environment and so the image becomes a reflection of the exact place.
By creating a tight relationship between the related "images on the street”
and white canvases it support the position of the viewer as an active creator.
Exemplar 2013
Portrait
Series of photographs
Recently, I was in heat of seeking one lost small component going through the bag of mixed waste in our apartment. During picking the garbage piece by piece, crumb by crumb, I sudenly uncovered layers of passed days. In retrospect, I watched what was happening and eaten in the last week at our home.
Based on this experience and basic knowledge of garbology //Garbology is scientific study of waste and garbage, which refferes to lifestyles of certain groups of people applied especially in the sociocultural disciplines as anthropology, archeology, management.//
I was intrigued to create through this archaeological method metaphorical portraits of my neighbors. Portraits are composed of photographs of specimens, which I gradually took out from one waste bag belonging to the same householder. Each composition of photos works primarily with the element of fortune. It depended on the contents what I had just managed to pull out and also the rotting contents of some bags did require quick action.
For each Example = Householder has entered a number of photos documenting the content of each trash composed together and then I subjectively chose one photo that for me characterized the Example as a whole.

LIGHT GRAPHIC 2011
Site-specifi c instalation for church Zvěstování panně Marii in Litoměřice.
The installation deals with the geometric solution of Baroque architecture, which includes elements of rhythmic sinuosity and twilight game (chiaroscuro), that fully refl ect the composition of baroque space.
This principle of spatial compositional themes is transmitted from the central body to the interdependent secondary space. I achieved through combination of geometric circles which are transformed into a twilight game (chiaroscuro) through the use of programmed light sources. I perceive light as a „matter“ that fills the space and create graphic records of convex and concave order. Changing the light intensity forms a „living“space.

Light object „Straw“ 2010
(180 x 120 x 100 cm)
An interactive light object “Straw” creates a playful composition for each owner due to fl exible joints. Furthermore, my idea was to support a personal creativity of the user without any diff iculties to change the composition of fl exible joints.
The luminous source LED (Dragon Puck) is inside the plastic joint and a fi xed part for glass tubes. The fixed part is made with unseating form for glass (s.technical design). An electric circuit is going through the electric transmit tape which is situated inside the part of tube or transparent electric wire. The object is attached by own frame of joints and glass tubes and it should be placed in a large interior such as an entrance hall.

Light object I. and II. 2010
This glass lighting object uses as light source LEDLine
or LightTape technology. One side of glass sheet is with evaporative coated
glass which provides reflecting surface and dynamical lighting.
Composition of glass sheets is based on the
interconnection of plates, which replicates the way of the brick-box inserting
the fragments of different sizes together. View-through creates from each side an
imaginary new shape.
NEIGHBOURS COMUNICATION 2009
This was an installation for an apartment complex in the city „Viana do Castelo“ in Portugal.
The intention was to create an indirect communication between neighbors. Repress monochrome atmosphere in the night caused by opaque shutters when the complex look like a dead city. Lighting installation represents what is happening in each flat. The result comes from the night view at panel buildings in the Czech Republic.
When eachone has a specifi c identity (a distinctive identity) by it that through each window leak out a reduced lighting and it is clearly possible to register the motion in the room, switchs of the TV etc. Also, the changing composition of geometric (rectangular formats, window) depending on the activity in the room (leaving the room, sleep).
The installation using a light panel LED and sensors for brightness control located on each balcony (one balcony for each window). I achieve a distribution of black and white environs (ambient) and support the result of the lights saing: „People living inside me.“ People can turn on or turn off lights and changing composition. The light is changing intensity depending on the number of people in the room. I chose rather colder, staid light colors, which are more suitable for modern architectural complex and usually the colours influence people calmly.

WHITE CUBE 2009
The theme is based on the book White Cube by Brian O‘Doerthy.
The idea was deformation of the internal surface sheet of white cube compared with a hard outer skin. The illusion of walls which are not static, but we can move them. Through them express the internal unease of the outside pressure of society and media.
Internal lines are graphically recorded vector lines that defi ne the boundaries of the cube. These boundaries are crumbling under pressure and follow the deformation. The installation should be made by plasterboard which is further material for walls.

TYPO 2010
Performance
This piece develops from cooperation with international student. We stand out for de-construction of reports. Subject was misunderstanding of communication and total degradation of information.
Together we were progressively erasing information from newspapers, which was for each of us incomprehensible texts. The issued was to deconstruct meaningful sentences, texts, pages, sections. We always override the content what we understand. In between graphical gaps was created a space for new meanings. It is illustration of understanding a word but it doesn’t mean that we can understand the meaning.
The next step was a distribution of this newsless material. Users of the street railway usually appropriated this publication and interrupted the continuity of transmission between users and sometimes we integrate them directly by donating with the artifact. Creating meanings have been left for the „audience“ who become for us an „actors“ with unsuspecting audience. Although reaction was various, those who participated in this even „diff erence in interpretation of the meaning“ eventually became the authors themselves.
